IIntroduction – Debbie

Hello, everyone. My name is Debbie Buter, and for 20 years, I have been the driving force and proud owner of Mirror Engraving.

Today, I'd like to take you on a journey through my personal story and how Mirror Engraving began in 2004 in my gift shop, Debbie's Giftshop, in Purmerend.

But first, let me introduce myself: I was born in 1961 and am 63 years young as I write this.

I have been happily married to my childhood sweetheart, Williejan, for over forty years. We have three wonderful sons: Patrick, Michael, and Jayme. Over the years, we are also blessed with three lovely daughters-in-law: Inger, Priscilla, and Andrea.

I'm also the proud grandmother of five amazing grandchildren: Skye, Livvy, Alfie, Indy, and Icey. Besides my family and work, my biggest passion is traveling, especially on cruises.

Birth Mirrors & Mirror of Moments

Creativity has always been an essential part of my life. I was inspired to create something unique and personal when I started my gift shop.

Thanks to a "happy accident" by my husband, Mirror Engraving was born 20 years ago from this very idea (watch the video below under "The Passion for Laser Engraving").

My creativity is crucial at Mirror Engraving, as I work closely with our design team on every order. No design goes out the door without my approval.

My favorite projects include birth mirrors (Newborn Baby Gifts) and our unique Mirror of Moments, and combining these two types of mirrors is "totally my thing."

These projects bring joy to our customers and fulfill my need for creativity and personal connection.

The Origin of Mirror Engraving

The story of Mirror Engraving began in 2004 in my gift shop, Debbie's Giftshop, located in the Willem Eggert Shopping Center in Purmerend in the Netherlands. My shop served as my creative outlet, selling all sorts of unique gifts.

The idea of laser-engraving mirrors struck me while searching for a way to offer my customers something even more personal and unique. I wanted to create a product that wasn't only beautiful but also had emotional significance.

The turning point came in 2007 when Carlo Boszhard, a well-known Dutch TV personality, and his mother visited my shop.

Carlo was so impressed with the engraved mirrors that he showed a laser-engraved mirror we made for him and his mother during the Mother's Day broadcast of Life & Cooking in May 2007.

This moment was truly magical. Carlo presented the mirror as "The Perfect Mother's Day Gift," and the response was overwhelming.

We received orders from all over the Netherlands for personalized laser-engraved mirrors. Our appearance on national TV boosted our small shop and confirmed that we were on the right track.

Over the years, my little gift shop gradually transformed into a specialized business in laser-engraved mirrors. The love and passion I put into every design were recognized and appreciated by our customers, motivating me to continue and grow.

The Idea Behind Mirror Engraving

The idea behind Mirror Engraving was straightforward: to create a unique, personalized gift suitable for any occasion and adaptable to any setting.

Thanks to mirrors' natural reflective qualities, this vision became a reality. A laser-engraved mirror isn't just a mirror; it's an artwork that preserves personal memories and milestones.

It's a gift that checks all the boxes because each engraving reflects the occasion, making our products unique and versatile.

Laser Engraved Mirrors as Newborn Baby Gifts

Take, for example, our birth mirrors (Newborn baby gifts). These can be engraved with a newborn's first photo, birth announcement card, and birth details.

Laser Engraved Mirrors as Wedding Gifts

With a couple's photo, a Laser-Engraved Mirror becomes a "Wedding Mirror"—the perfect gift for weddings and anniversaries.

These Laser Engraved Mirrors capture cherished memories and reflect the love and commitment between two people.

Laser Engraved Mirrors as Memorials

One of the most profound uses of our mirrors is for memorials with the image of a loved one who has passed.

These Memorial Mirrors offer comfort and keep memories of loved ones alive. Every time you look into the mirror, you see a reflection of yourself alongside the engraved image of your beloved.

At Mirror Engraving, we believe each gift should be unique and leave an everlasting impression. Every Laser Engraved Mirror is genuinely one of a kind and makes a memorable impact.

Our mirrors fit seamlessly into any home decor, adding a timeless touch to any setting. They perfectly align with our mission to preserve memories and capture special moments stylishly and timelessly.

The Passion for Laser Engraving

My passion for laser engraving is the driving force behind Mirror Engraving. It's a blend of creativity and technology that creates something beautiful and meaningful.

I love working with customers on their designs and bringing their visions to life. The laser engraving process is intricate and demands precision and attention to detail.

Williejan explains the discovery of our laser-engraved mirrors.

When creating a Laser Engraved Mirror, it is crucial to balance the laser beam's intensity and the speed at which it moves across the mirror's surface.

If the intensity is too high, it can damage the mirror. If it is too low, it doesn't achieve the desired result.

The quality of the mirror is also vital for the final product.

We use extra-clear glass (also known as diamond glass) for our mirrors. These mirrors are copper-free and have a backside coating with a consistent value across the surface, with no micron deviation.

Sustainably Produced and Copper-Free

What makes our mirrors even more remarkable is that they are 100% produced using electricity from our solar panels.

My team and I are proud of this eco-friendly approach, which allows us to offer sustainable and environmentally friendly products to our customers.

Combining creativity, technical precision, and sustainability makes each Laser Engraved Mirror unique.

This passion and dedication keep our customers returning and recommending us to others.

We have enjoyed creating many unique and memorable projects for an impressive range of customers.

The path to success was challenging, but we've thrived in this niche market by working hard and staying true to my vision.

Craftsmanship, Dedication, Quality, and Gratitude

What began as a small idea in my gift shop has grown into an internationally recognized company that prides itself on craftsmanship and dedication to quality.

We see it as a journey through which we've met thousands of amazing people and collected countless stories. Through our laser-engraved mirrors, we've had the privilege of creating something beautiful and unique for each one. Every part of this journey has contributed to the success of Mirror Engraving.

For this, we are grateful to each customer. Big or small, famous or "ordinary," each customer we've helped with love, joy, and dedication has helped us grow into the company Mirror Engraving is today.

Many customers have told us this through heartfelt and sometimes emotional messages they've left in our guestbook or as product reviews on Google or social media. Of course, we are incredibly proud of this!

Thank you!

Through this blog, I want to share my story and build a personal connection with you. I hope our story inspires you, as does the passion we've poured into our product over the past 20 years—and that we will continue to put into every product in the future.

Mirror Engraving is not just a company; it's an extension of my creativity and commitment to creating unique, personal gifts that will be cherished for years by any receiver.

I promise that my team and I will handle your order with the same dedication and passion!
